I love this tiny human!

My birth was reasonably quick for a first birth. I started at home and things happened quickly. I woke up and wasn’t feeling great so I walked down the road to the supermarket to get apple juice, this was about 6.30am. It escalated and I wasn’t able to lie down and was walking around the house. It didn’t actually occur to me that I should time anything.

A couple of text messages to Cheryl, our doula (Ideal Birth) who initially said as it was my first it could go on for a while. I then proceeded to vomit and Cheryl was on her way. I laboured at home in the shower/bath for a while but my fear was the hot water would run out as that was my pain relief.

All fours was my position which I took when things were full on. I crawled to the car and through the hospital foyer. At the hospital it took awhile to get to the labour rooms. I wasn’t told but I was 4cm when we arrived a bit before 10am.

Water, birthing ball and a lot of gas! I had oil & a massage tool which both stayed in my bag.  The gas was amazing but not for relief almost to keep me distracted from what was going on and so I could focus on it. My labour was 2 hours 56 minutes. Georgina had to have some help coming into the world with a vacuum.

Nothing I read or anything anyone told me could have prepared me for birth, it was short but intense. Thanks again for all the classes and breathing. Like so many people said you’ll do all this preparation but it just depends on the day! Georgina is doing really well and we’re over the moon. I didn’t think it was possible to love a tiny human as much.
