I roared & it felt wonderful

Thank you for another great birth prep course. We welcomed our second yogababy last Saturday the 4th of July. Little Mateo surprised us and came three weeks early. My first was born right on 40 weeks so I really didn’t think I was in labour!

My contractions started slowly while I was at work all day and progressed through the evening. I was still unsure whether I was in labour or not but I sent my husband and daughter to bed as normal. I laboured in the lounge room alternating between resting on my side and leaning over the kitchen bench. I tried the bath but it made the contractions more intense. I decided to wake my husband around 3.30am and pack a bag for hospital. I was so unorganised as I thought I had weeks left.

We arrived just after 4am and I was already 7cm dilated. This labour was different to my first where I was constantly swaying, walking, rolling on the gym ball. This time around I was still and relaxed sitting in a forward leaning position and letting the contractions wash over me each time.

My husband was right there with me squeezing my lower back and shimmying my back with a scarf. After a few intense and long contractions I felt the need to push and I was up on all fours before I knew it. Delivery was super quick and my waters broke dramatically on his way out. I may have roared a few times but it felt wonderful.

He was born at 5.33am. I was still in shock when I pulled him up and put him on my chest. I was able to wait for the placenta to be delivered without help, as I had requested. It was another amazing experience that felt so empowering. I will always be thankful for your active birth course as this preparation was so important for both of my births. Namaste and hope to join again one day.
