The Importance of Relaxation Between Contractions
One of the simplest yet most effective strategies for birth is learning to intentionally relax during the pauses between contractions. These brief rests are the body’s natural way of helping a birthing person reset and conserve energy.
In her second labour, Ash said:
“I consciously relaxed in the breaks between contractions, which gave me the strength to meet the next surge.”
This conscious softening created a completely different experience from her first birth. Instead of spiralling into distress, she felt calm, centred, and in control.
Practice idea: Between yoga poses, take a few breaths to intentionally relax your jaw, shoulders, and pelvic floor. This habit carries into birth beautifully.
