Cesarean Birth and Yoga

“Are Pregnancy Yoga classes really right for me? I know I’m having a cesarean… can I still participate?”

This is a question I hear from time to time, and our answer is always the same:
Yes—these classes are for everyone.

One of our students asked this very question before her birth. Later, when she returned to mums and bubys yoga, she shared that the tools we practiced in the yogababy pregnancy yoga class supported her in a surprising way. Before her cesarean, while waiting in the operating theatre, she drew on the breathing and calming techniques she had learned.

She wasn’t moving through yoga poses, of course, but she was using the emotional and mental practices that help ease anxiety and keep the body out of fight-or-flight.

That’s the gift of prenatal yoga—it isn’t only about physical postures. It’s about preparing your mind, nervous system, and spirit for birth, however it unfolds.

Cesarean birth, vaginal birth, or anything in between—yoga has tools to support you.
